The origin of Earth Day dates back to the 1970s when Gaylord Nelson, a Democratic Senator from the United States, witnessed the extensive environmental damage caused by a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, in January 1969. As a response, he organized a campus movement focused on environmental conservation on April 22nd of the following year, thus giving rise to Earth Day.
Simple daily changes such as conserving water and electricity, turning off lights when not in use, avoiding plastic and disposable utensils, and utilizing public transportation can all contribute significantly to a sustainable Earth. Each of us has the potential to be a guardian of the Earth.
MeiChuan invites everyone caring for the Earth!
